The California Legislature has approved a bill allowing state regulators to enforce a first-in-the-nation requirement for electric vehicles to be capable of powering homes and the energy grid. The bill, S.B. 59, would allow the California Energy Commission to study bidirectional charging technology, which allows EV to act as batteries that can supply energy. While car companies are exploring this technology, most current models do not include this capability. This could significantly increase manufacturers’ adoption of bidirectionic charging.
