Shannon Estenoz, the nominee for the Interior Department’s deputy secretary, has received bipartisan support during a Senate confirmation hearing. While Republicans in the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee criticized the Biden administration’s energy and endangered species policies, they praised Esthenoz’s work and suggested she might be promoted to the department’s No. 2 executive. Republican Sen. John Barrasso praised Estrenoz’s willingness to listen and learn, and praised her ability to work across party lines. Barrasso also expressed disdain for Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, whom he called “completely irresponsible and unfit secretary of the Interior”.
