Bipartisan SECURE Grid Act Introduced to Enhance State Assessments of Power Grid Threats Before Federal Funding.

Ohio Republican Rep. Bob Latta and California Democrat Doris Matsui have introduced legislation to ensure states are fully assessing the threat of physical, natural disaster and cyber threats to their power grids before receiving federal funding. The “Securing Community Upgrades for a Resilient (SECURE) Grid Act” would require states to submit an annual state energy security plan before receiving funds from the Department of Energy’s State Energy Program. Latta, chair of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, emphasized the need for grid security due to increased physical attacks on substations and cyber-attacks from foreign adversaries.
