A bipartisan coalition of lawmakers is urging President Joe Biden to act against unfair Chinese solar trade practices as a yearslong tariff moratorium expires. The letters, signed by moderate Democrats in the Senate and House, and those of House Republicans, ask Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and U.S. International Trade Commission Chair David Johanson to support a new petition to counter Chinese solar panel manufacturing in four Southeast Asian countries. The issue has been contentious among Democrats and has led to a split between solar installers and companies that produce components in states like Ohio. The Biden administration did not initially impose new tariffs on Chinese solar panels in May, but these would not affect the Chinese-controlled solar production in Southeast Asia.
