President Joe Biden announced new actions aimed at ensuring the stability of supply chains for products such as critical minerals, wind turbines and battery components, crucial to the administration’s efforts to expand renewable energy and reduce emissions. The new actions include the creation of a Council on Supply Chain Resilience, a group of agency leaders aiming to prevent major supply chain disruptions like the recent Covid-19 pandemic. The council includes Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, EPA Administrator Michael Regan, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and other administration officials. The Energy Department also announced plans to invest $275 million in communities impacted by coal mines or coal-fired power plants. The White House also announced a supply chain center at the Commerce Department working with the Energy Department to conduct analyses of clean energy supplies.
