Biden Celebrates Earth Day with $7 Billion Solar Grant and New Climate Initiatives Amid Political Opposition

President Joe Biden is set to celebrate Earth Day in a Virginia national park with a series of events aimed at promoting his environmental policies and promising new actions on climate and conservation. The White House plans to announce $7 billion in grant funding for solar power delivery to low-income and disadvantaged communities, and also announce new steps to advance the American Climate Corps, an effort modeled after President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s Civilian Conservation Corps. The administration also plans to make announcements about rules aimed at reducing pollution from the power sector and providing cleaner air and healthier schools for all children. The events are part of a week of events designed to draw attention to Biden’s environmental policies. However, opposition to these efforts by congressional Republicans and environmental activists has led to calls for more action against climate change.
