The White House has released a regulatory plan that could influence President Joe Biden’s energy legacy and influence greenhouse gas emissions and the electricity mix. The fall agenda includes tentative timelines for new rules affecting pipelines, energy efficiency, oil drilling on public lands, and other issues ahead of a contentious presidential election cycle. Oil and gas agencies plan to push several regulations across the finish line next year, including a previously proposed rule that would reshape drilling in the western Arctic. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s most high-profile proposed transmission rules are listed as “next action undetermined” for October 2024. The Department of Energy is also expected to finalize final efficiency regulations for appliances and equipment, including gas stoves, distribution transformers, consumer water heaters, dishwashers, clothes dryers, and washers, ceiling fans, consumer boilers, vending machines, electric motors, commercial ice makers and other appliances.
