The Biden administration is seeking a significant increase in funding for state, local and tribal air quality regulators, despite recent pushback from Capitol Hill. The proposal includes increased funding for an aging air pollution monitoring network and plans to target Clean Air Act permitting decisions found to be discriminatory. State and local air agencies would receive $400.2 million in fiscal 2025, up almost 70 percent from this year’s total of $236 million. Spending on tribal airquality management grants would increase by more than 40 percent from $16.3 million to $23.1 million. Despite a recent court setback, EPA plans to continue targeting these decisions.
