Biden Administration Announces Historic Offshore Wind Sale in Oregon Amid Environmental Concerns and Fisheries Impact.

The Biden administration has announced the first-ever offshore wind sale off the coast of Oregon, despite state leaders’ concerns about the impact of floating wind technology on the ocean ecosystem and fisheries. The Interior Department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management will offer two lease areas for bid on Oct. 15, one which includes 61,203 acres and another which could support more than 3 gigawatts of wind energy, enough to power 1 million homes. The sale will be part of President Joe Biden’s climate agenda, which includes efforts to boost emerging technology such as floating offshore wind turbines in waters too deep for traditional foundations.
