Babcock & Wilcox and Black Hills Energy secure $16 million grant for coal-to-hydrogen facility in Wyoming.

Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) and Black Hills Energy have secured a $16 million grant from the Wyoming Energy Authority for a cutting-edge coal-to-hydrogen production facility and carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and sequestration project. The project, planned for Black Hills’ Neil Simpson Power Plant in Gillette, Wyoming, aims to produce 15 tonnes of hydrogen daily from coal and focus on efficient CO2 capture and utilization. The innovative project will be powered by B&W’s BrightLoop technology, which uses various feedstocks including coal, biomass, and waste fuels. This approach aligns with Wyoming’s strategic goals of harnessing its diverse energy portfolio and positions the state at the forefront of clean energy initiatives.
