Avangrid Acquires Mobile Transformer from Hitachi Energy to Expedite Outage Recovery at Renewable Energy Facilities

Avangrid has acquired a 168 MVA mobile transformer from Hitachi Energy to help the company resolve outages in the event of a damaged transformer faster than the two-year lead time for a replacement. The mobile transformer can be deployed and installed within a couple of months to Avangrid’s onshore wind and solar facilities due to its multi-voltage capabilities. The transformer’s technology allows for a low profile and the ability to withstand higher-than-normal transport accelerations, and also helps bring energy production back online while replacement equipment is procured. Steve McKinney, Senior VP and Head of Hitachi’s Transformer Business, North America, said this unique engineering solution also incorporates the skills of Hitach Energy’’S Transformer business, North American.
