Arizona tribes are appealing a dismissal of a legal challenge against a major electric transmission line, SunZia, that they claim would threaten historical sites in the San Pedro Valley. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will decide if the Tohono O’odham Nation, San Carlos Apache Tribe, and other challengers have grounds to oppose the 550-mile line. Last week, a judge ruled that the tribes had waited too long to file their challenge against the project, and that some of the claims were not final agency actions. The project is designed to provide about 3 million customers in California and Arizona with mostly renewable power.
