Argonne National Laboratory Receives $4 Million for New Hydrogen Vehicle Testing Facility from Department of Energy.

Argonne National Laboratory is receiving $4 million from the US Department of Energy (DoE) for a new research and development facility for independent testing of heavy-duty hydrogen vehicles. The facility will be used to test large-scale H2 systems for both heavy-dive and off-road applications. The DoE is funding the project due to Argonne’s extensive experience in fuel cell technology, which will allow the lab to gain valuable insight into H2 fuel systems. The new facility will examine the feasibility and drawbacks of using H2 as a clean fuel for transportation applications, such as heavy-haul trucks, marine vessels, locomotives, and heavy machinery used in construction, mining, and agriculture. The project is set to become operational in the second half of this year.
