Aqua Metals Unveils Sustainable Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Technology Amidst Challenges of Fluctuating Metal Prices.

US company Aqua Metals has developed a novel lithium-ion battery recycling technology, claiming its process is cheaper and more sustainable than conventional methods. The company’s VP of commercial David Regan discusses the challenges of dealing with fluctuating metal prices among the metal commodities from which it will generate revenue. The process uses electrons as sustainable reagents via electroplating to extract valuable metals using electricity, eliminating constant supply of chemicals. The carbon footprint for AquaRefining is primarily driven by electricity from the electric grid. However, the company anticipates many volumes from the ESS market but will be exceeded by the rapid growth of EV batteries.
