APS Signs Tolling Agreement for 600MWh Battery Storage Facility to Boost Clean Energy Goals by 2030.

Arizona Public Service (APS) has signed a tolling agreement for 600MWh battery storage facility, Justice Energy Storage (BESS), with the 4-hour duration BESS asset set to go into commercial operation in April 2026 and connect to the utility’s grid. The agreement allows APS to charge and dispatch energy stored in the facility, while Strata Clean Energy will retain ownership of the asset and maintain capacity, reliability and efficiency. The project was part of a larger project, Scatter Wash BESS, which will help APS reach its goal of 65% clean energy, including nuclear, and 45% renewables by 2030. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
