American Battery Factory Breaks Ground on $1.2 Billion Lithium-Ion Gigafactory in Arizona, Promising 1,000 Jobs.

American Battery Factory (ABF) has begun construction on a two million square foot lithium-ion cell gigafactory in Arizona, aiming to create 1,000 jobs and require US$1.2 billion in investment. The facility will be completed by 2025 using a tension-based fabric membrane structure, which the company claims saves time and money on construction, but some industry sources have questioned its suitability. The company is targeting the military, large electric vehicle (EV) and stationary energy storage system (ESS) markets. ABF has secured partnerships with technology companies including Celgard, Anovion, and FNA Group and has raised significant development capital to make its vision a reality. The firm is also set to host the10th Solar and Storage Finance USA conference in 2023.
