American Battery Factory Breaks Ground on $1.2 Billion Gigafactory in Tucson, Creating 1,000 Jobs.

US battery manufacturer, American Battery Factory (ABF), has begun construction of a USD-1.2-bn gigafactory for lithium iron phosphate battery cells in Tucson, Arizona. The project, which will cost around $3.1bn, will cover 2 million sq ft (185,806 sq m) of land and will also house ABF’s headquarters and R&D centre. The production facility will be located at Pima County’s Aerospace Research Campus. The construction of the project is expected to create around 1,000 jobs and meet the growing demand for lithium batteries, which is predicted to increase 10-fold over the next decade. ABF plans to offer cells from the new plant to households, business owners and electric utilities.
