Alaska Sues Interior Department Over Cancellation of Oil and Gas Leases in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge

Alaska is suing the Interior Department for millions of dollars in compensation for canceling oil and gas leases in the coastal plain of Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The state is not directly suing over the cancellation, but wants the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to face the legal consequences of its policy actions. The Bureau of Lands Management had announced last September it would cancel seven leases that had been frozen since the Biden administration. The complaint was filed in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
