Alaska Natives to Gain Greater Influence in Federal Subsistence Board for Fish and Wildlife Management.

Alaska Natives are set to gain more influence over managing subsistence use of fish and wildlife on federal lands in the state. The Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed a proposal to add three additional members to the Federal Subsistence Board, with members nominated by federally recognized tribal governments. The new members would also have personal knowledge of and direct experience with subsistence uses in rural Alaska. Supporters argue that this gives a significant voice to Native Americans who have local knowledge of local conditions.
