The agriculture industry is seeing a technological revolution in response to climate change impacts, rising energy costs, and shifting government policies and subsidies. Agriculture was one of the earliest industries to adopt solar photovoltaic energy, with about 14 GW of global capacity installed as of 2021. Dual-use farming, where both solar modules produce electricity while providing optimal sunshine and shade for the crops underneath, reduces heat stress and water loss. This method, known as co-locating, can yield impressive results when done correctly and using the right technology. Research has found that dual use aids the energy production of photovolaic systems. The right technologies for successful agri-PV projects need to be leveraged to maximize both solar energy harvesting and crop yields. Module level power electronics (MLPE) based PV system can be used to maximise both crop harvest and solar energy yield.
