Renewables and energy storage company Agilitas Energy is building a 4.8 MW/23.7 MWh standalone energy storage project in Con Edison’s service territory in Long Island City, Queens. The project is expected to be completed in 2024 and is designed to help the utility meet peak loads in its footprint. It will also participate in New York’�s Value of Distributed Energy Resources value stack tariff, which compensates distributed energy projects for their electricity return to the grid. This will help support load growth without costly upgrades and substation transformer replacements. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has proposed a plan for 6 GW of energy storage by 2030, which is estimated to reduce future electric system costs by nearly $2 billion.
