American Electric Power (AEP) and Calpine Corp. have announced significant leadership reshuffles, with AEP Chair, President, and CEO Julie Sloat being replaced by Benjamin G. Fowke III, an AEP Board of Directors member and the former chairman and CEO of Xcel Energy, as the company’s interim CEO and president. Calpine, an integrated competitive power company, has also chosen Andrew Novotny, Calpine’�s current president and COO, to succeed Thad Hill as its CEO. The changes follow an agreement with Icahn Capital to add two new Board members to AEP. The move underscores the growing impact of investor activism on utilities.
