$10 Million Grant Aims to Boost Clean Energy Manufacturing in Appalachia, Supporting Over 1,000 Small Businesses

A $10 million federal grant is being used to recruit small and medium manufacturers for the growing clean energy economy in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, and New York. The New Energy Economy project will provide training, technical assistance, supply chain mapping, and guidance for factory and product upgrades to over 1,000 small to medium-sized manufacturers over four years. The project is being hosted by ReImagine Appalachia and aims to drive economic transformation, create in-demand jobs, and build a brighter future for Appalachian communities. However, there are barriers to reaching new markets, including supply chain disruptions, labor shortages, outdated facilities and technology, and lack of training in technology. The grant is funded by the Appalachian Regional Commission under the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
